The OKEANOS Institute of the University of the Azores took part in the S3 Summit 2026 – Smart Specialisation Strategy, held from 27 to 29 May at the NONAGON Science and Technology Park on São Miguel Island (Azores). The event brought together researchers, companies, policymakers, and institutional representatives to discuss the role of innovation and smart specialisation in the sustainable development of outermost regions.
Within this framework, OKEANOS presented the ACUICONECTA project as part of the event’s scientific exhibition, alongside other research initiatives developed by the University of the Azores. This participation provided an opportunity to showcase the project’s objectives, methodologies, and expected outcomes to a diverse audience, fostering knowledge exchange and creating new opportunities for collaboration among the scientific, business, and institutional sectors. The event was also attended by the Vice-President of the Regional Government of the Azores, Artur Manuel Leal de Lima, an ACUICONECTA project partner.
The presence of ACUICONECTA at the S3 Summit reinforces its alignment with the priorities of the Macaronesian smart specialisation strategy, particularly in areas such as the blue economy, sustainability, and innovation applied to ocean-related productive sectors. The project was presented by the OKEANOS team, a member of the consortium and a leading marine research institution in the Macaronesian region.
