CETECIMA is a center supporting innovation and internationalization in the marine-maritime sector, established in 2004 as a private non-profit organization with the aim of enhancing the competitiveness of companies through innovation, technology, knowledge, and internationalization. To achieve this, CETECIMA provides solutions to the marine-maritime sector by acting as an interface and integrator of activities between companies, research centers, and public administrations. Although based in the Canary Islands, CETECIMA operates beyond the region, working in other Spanish autonomous communities and in Atlantic countries such as Portugal, France, Ireland, and the United Kingdom, as well as in West African countries like Morocco, Senegal, Mauritania, and Cape Verde through territorial cooperation projects and specialized services under various international tenders and technical assistance contracts. In terms of thematic areas, CETECIMA specializes in the marine-maritime sector, with particular focus on fisheries, aquaculture, boating, and all activities related to the blue economy, including ports and port services, maritime transport, and maritime tourism (cruises, boating, and water sports). It is also active in cross-cutting areas such as innovation, ICT, R&D&I, safety, international promotion, environmental management, quality of fishery and aquaculture products, and resource efficiency.
CETECIMA in ACUICONECTA: CETECIMA will focus its support to the consortium on activities related to technological design and transfer, socioeconomic impacts, and the transfer of knowledge generated in the project to both relevant stakeholders and governance bodies. Specifically, it will analyze data from regional, national, and European marine litter monitoring programs to identify areas of potential risk for aquaculture development and to prevent contamination in aquaculture products. It will carry out comparative studies on the state of the art of integrated multitrophic aquaculture implementation in Macaronesia, and the legal framework for the implementation of multipurpose platforms that include (or could include) aquaculture in the region, as well as the regulatory framework for plant and animal aquaculture production in Cape Verde, Ghana, and São Tomé. CETECIMA will also assess funding opportunities for researchers and businesses in the aquaculture sector in these countries. In addition, it will evaluate the existing opportunities for the development of offshore ocean aquaculture in experimental environments and will participate in forums and events to share experiences and mutual needs among actors and stakeholders, including its scientific and technological services for companies within the specialized aquaculture platform developed in the project. CETECIMA will also contribute to the training of students and trainers for Europe and the project’s cooperation area.
