The main areas of expertise of the UNAM research group involved in the project include:
- Reproduction and cultivation of the octopus Octopus maya.
- Reproduction and cultivation of emerging tropical marine fish species.
- Reproductive physiology and animal welfare in octopuses, crustaceans, and emerging tropical marine fish species.
- Collaboration with small-scale producers interested in the cultivation of octopuses, crustaceans, and marine fish, in connection with a designated fishery refuge zone.
UNAM in ACUICONECTA: technical assistance and exchange of experiences in the cultivation of cephalopods, crustaceans, and tropical marine fish with community groups, with the aim of promoting the co-development of productive projects based on species of interest in each project location.
