Presentation of ACUICONECTA in Praia within the framework of the Interreg MAC project launch events with Cape Verde

A team made up of members from the Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias (ITC) and the Universidade Técnica do Atlântico (UTA) presented the ACUICONECTA project during the launch event of the projects approved in the first call of the Interreg MAC 2021-2027 territorial cooperation program, organized within the framework of the ATLANTE project and held in Praia (Cape Verde) on September 10 and 11, 2025.

The joint presentation, given by Marianna Venuleo (ITC) and Antonio Pinto (UTA), highlighted the fundamental aspects of Cape Verde’s participation in ACUICONECTA, with particular emphasis on:

  • The competitive advantages that Cape Verde holds in the aquaculture sector—particularly plant aquaculture—compared to other countries.

  • The win-win strategy promoted by ACUICONECTA, which on the one hand supports Cape Verde in developing a sector with great potential to diversify its economy, and on the other offers the outermost regions of the Azores, Canary Islands, and Madeira a relevant case study for planning the future management of plant aquaculture production in regions with a tendency toward desertification. In addition, it fosters training activities and knowledge exchange aimed at establishing stable and long-lasting collaboration between Cape Verdean researchers and their European counterparts.
